ABSENCESHow many times am I allowed to be absent?Technically only 5 times a quarter, beyond that you risk your grade.
What will happen if I am absent more than 5 times in a quarter? You will be obliged to take a challenge exam or do extra work or project or may receive an automatic F grade.
What if I have to go for a family business trip which may be longer than 5 days? Please see the Principal and submit a form called - Anticipated Absence Form. Make sure you get all your teachers signature and they indicate what you will do with your missed assignments when you return. Without such form or agreement, you could receive a failing grade.
What should I do if I missed a test? You should see the teacher once you return to school. You should set a date to take the test before the next scheduled test.
What will happen if I skip a test or be absent on the test day?Bring a Blue Slip to class, if you are EXCUSED, then you will be given Form X Test instead of the regular test that your friends did during the scheduled date. Form X is the harder version of the test - more essay and short answers and less multiple choices questions. However, if you don’t produce a Blue Slip that says EXCUSED, then you will not be allowed to sit for the test or for missing work.
Does a Blue Excuse Slip cancel or erase an absence? No. You need to show the Blue Slip to avoid getting a Pink Slip but your absence is recorded and counted. Don’t go beyond 5 absenses (excused or unexcused) per quarter, see above.
IPAD and LAPTOPSDo I need to bring my iPad to class everyday?Recommended that you bring your iPad to class everyday but if you are willing to work hard, you can survive without an iPad in class.
I don’t own an iPad or tablet, what should I do?You could bring your laptop computer or you could borrow your friend’s iPad from another Values class period.
Where can I read all the class lectures and presentations?First, watch the lecture presentation from the teacher’s web site. Second, download the iBook or the PDF file and read either using your laptop or iPad or any other tablet.
Are all the lectures and presentation available in the teacher’s web site?Yes. Almost everything that happens in class are found in the teacher’s web site. You can download the ebooks or PDF worksheets from the web site.
I don’t have an iPad but I have iPhone 6 Plus or Galaxy tablet. Can I bring those instead? You can bring any other tablet but phones or phablets are not allowed.
Does it have to be “iPad”? Can I bring other tablet instead of iPad?Most of the ebooks are made for iPads with interactive and interesting widgets (iBook). If you use other tablets, then you will use PDF which are static without any interactivity.
Do we need to use Internet or be “online” when we use the tablets? Not necessary if you have already downloaded the ebook from home. But it is always good to have Internet connectivity so you can do research when needed.
How do we recharge our tablets if the battery is low?Every seat/chair has access to an electrical outlet in our classroom. Bring your charger with you when you come to class, it is always good to recharge your device when there is an outlet near you.
CLASSROOM IN GENERALCan I use your Laser Printer to print my assignment for Values or other subjects?I discourage students from using the Teacher’s computer and printer. Please use the service provided by our Library.
Can we use your classroom #625 during Lunch for our Club Meetings or just to sit quietly and do our work?Yes, my room is always open for students to use during Breakfast break or Lunch break provided you don’t snoop over the Teacher’s corner - Teacher’s desk, computers, shelf and cabinet, etc. Stay at your chair or use the opens space on the floor to do your work. As long you respect my property the door will be opened for you.
Can we bring food inside the classroom during breakfast or lunch break?I allow fruits, desserts and drinks to be brought inside the classroom but strongly discourage cooked food since cooked food has strong aroma which may not be appreciated by all.
ASSIGNMENTSWhat is the format of the Essay paper?Simple formatting, 1” margins all around, just make sure it has a minimum of 1000 words. Use standard font face, like Arial or Times New Roman size 12. Single space with half inch indent for every new paragraph.
Can we copy information from the web for the essay paper?Plagiarism is a crime. The teacher will use Internet tools to check and verify your work. You are allowed about 15% outside information (150 words) the rest should be your original words.
How are the Worksheets and Notebook graded?Worksheets and Notebooks are graded in two parts: First, the process, how information is written - were you actively writing the answers when teacher was teaching? Second, the content of the information - is the answer accurate and enough, does it answer the question to the point. See the RUBRICS for Workbook given at the end of your Workbook (Appendix section).
Is it true there is no ESLO and ESP deduction in this class?See the grading categories, there is none. Proper behavior should come from within ourselves. Does anyone give me a score or points when I “mannerly” queue to take the BTS? Proper behavior is expected from everyone in our society. So start practicing good behavior without rewards. Proper behavior is expected from everyone at all time. Usually ESLO and ESP are integrated in all our class activities.
BONUSESAre there any BONUS points in this class?Yes there are few Bonus or FREE give away points. (1) Bonus for having PERFECT ATTENDANCE, (2) Week of Prayer Journal, (3) Schoology Course Registration within the first week of school, (4) Bringing Tablet to class everyday, (5) and others that will be announced later.
How are Bonus points calculated?Bonuses are counted as a TEST out of 50 pts. When you receive a Bonus, you get a full 50 out of 50 in that Test. Example: if you have a perfect attendance, then you get a 50 out of 50 in Attendance, which is treated like a Test.
What if I don’t have perfect attendance, does my grade go down? No. You simply don’t get the Perfect Attendance Bonus. Your grade remains the same as before the Bonus. In other words, no one’s grade is penalized for not receiving a bonus. With a Bonus your grade goes up, without a Bonus your grade remains the same, it does not go down.
How many percent is the Bonus? It works differently for different people. How? Example, if a student fails in all the test but he has a perfect attendance so therefore he gets a 50 out of 50 (100%) in Attendance Test, this Attendance Test or Bonus will boost his grade up. But if a student already has high score in all the tests, getting another perfect score will not make a big difference.
Should I go for Bonus? Should I be CRAZY for Bonus?Depends on your performance in class. If you are not doing well in Test category, you need some boost, you should target these FREE bonuses like - Perfect Attendance, Week of Prayer Journal, and other Bonuses that will be announced later. However, If you are already a high achiever, getting all A’s in Tests, a Bonus will not really help you, you should not be crazy about the Bonus, just LET IT GO. So in conclusion, in my class the Bonus is meant for students who are weak in tests and struggling to keep their grades high.
